In a show of unity, patrons Dan and Ryan Friedkin travelled to the stadium in the team bus, which they had never done before.

As well as them, much of the blame seems to have been pinned on the players, who were loudly jeered as they emerged for the warm-up.

The chants from the fans in the Curva Sud were all about the fact they ‘only cheer for the shirt’ and seem to have no bond with the members of the current squad.

New coach Daniele De Rossi was a smart choice in that sense, picked largely because he represents Roma fans through and through, even though his only management experience was a short-lived Serie B stint at SPAL.
