Udogie ‘not accustomed’ to Tottenham role, but Spurs ‘different’ for Vicario

Destiny Udogie admits he is adapting to a new role at Tottenham, while his compatriot Gugliemo Vicario admits that playing for Spurs is ‘different’ from his previous clubs.

The Italian players released an interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport’s weekly magazine Sportweek.

It comes out on Saturday, but Gazzetta has already dropped a few quotes from the interview with the Italian pair playing in North London.

“There are no secrets, all I need to do is give my best every day,” said Vicario.

“Obviously, playing for a top club like this is different from where I played in the past. There are different expectations, but football remains the same and it’s great to play with top-quality players daily.”

Both Vicario and Udogie moved to Tottenham last summer, but the 21-year-old left-back had signed with Spurs in 2022, remaining for one season on loan at Udinese.

“The defending skills I learned in Italy are helping me here,” admitted Udogie who is playing as an attacking left-back under Ange Postecoglou.

“I don’t know if it’s the perfect role for me as I am not accustomed to it, but I often find myself in [attacking] position and I am starting to fit in.”

Udogie mostly played as a left wing-back in a 3-5-2 system at Udinese.

However, the Italian defender has had a tremendous impact in North London with two goals and three assists in 23 games across all competitions. He has recently signed a contract extension until June 2030, but a minor injury will force him out of action in a Premier League game against Wolves on Saturday.
